Our Team
Kit Baloun
President
Kit Baloun is a seasoned entrepreneur with a deep passion for helping others succeed. Her enthusiasm for entrepreneurship began long before she even knew the word for it. From an early age, she was immersed in the world of small business ownership through her family, where she witnessed firsthand the hard work, challenges, and rewards that come with being an “Owner.”
Kit officially began her own entrepreneurial journey in 2012 and is now the owner and CEO of two thriving home care agencies, serving the entire state of Iowa. With years of firsthand experience in launching, scaling, and managing multiple businesses, she understands the unique challenges small business owners face.
Inspired by her journey, Kit founded The Athena Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering small business owners. Through The Athena Group, she and her team provide support, guidance, and resources to help entrepreneurs overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
Tory Carew
Vice President
As Vice President of The Athena Group, Tory plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s mission to help entrepreneurs overcome obstacles and achieve sustainable success. In this leadership capacity, she oversees strategic initiatives, build partnerships, and supports program development designed to strengthen and uplift the small business community.
With extensive experience in regulatory compliance, organizational development and recruitment and retention, Tory brings both professional expertise and a deep commitment to service. Known for her collaborative leadership style and passion for fostering growth, Tory works alongside the Board of Directors and leadership team to expand The Athena Group’s reach and impact.
